James Cameron‘s highly-anticipated sci-fi sequel “Avatar: The Way of Water” is a visual masterpiece, and one of the film’s standout elements is the majestic and colossal “Tulkun” named Payakan. Payakan, who befriends Jake and Neytiri’s son Lo’ak, has become a fan favorite for his tragic backstory and impressive action scenes. In the film, Payakan also faces off against the villainous Mick Scoresby, played by Brendan Cowell, who hunts Tulkuns for their valuable brain-goo.

Avatar fans will be excited to hear that Payakan will be returning in the upcoming “Avatar 3,” and producer Jon Landau confirms that the character will have a deeper role in the story. Landau also reveals that Mick Scoresby will also be returning, likely more dangerous than before after losing an arm in the previous film’s finale.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” made it clear that the war for Pandora is not yet over, and with the introduction of Edie Falco’s General Ardmore as the leader of the RDA, it seems that the conflict will only continue to escalate. Fans can look forward to more of Payakan and the ongoing war for Pandora in “Avatar: The Return of Payakan,” set to release in 2024.
